Voices was first performed at UCLA's Fowler Museum in conjunction with their exhibit of crafts made by PLWHA in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, and canvas murals by AIDS activists. The event also featured art by children infected or affected by the disease. Participating actors included Robert Guillaume, Blair Underwood, Jurnee Smollet, Mitchell Anderson and Michael Chinyamurindi. African American PLWHA activist and BAI Executive Director Phill Wilson eloquently humanized the AIDS crisis in America, and ANSA Program Director Deborah Baron closed the event with a call to action.

Voices was performed on February 28, 2003, as the opening event for the Student Global AIDS Campaign's first national conference at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Performers included university students, local artists and a young American PLWHA. It introduced student activists from across the country to a creative vehicle that can be used on their home campuses to reach out to other students, thus expanding the support base for activism on the global AIDS pandemic. ANSA is working with student leaders to produce Voices on targeted campuses.
